Right, so a long time ago, I saw the original ClayFighter and the Nintendo 64 installment, ClayFighter 63⅓, while roaming around Blockbuster Video for video games to rent. I never rented either of them in the end, but I was definitely intrigued by them, particularly because of the snowman on the cover, whom I now know is Bad Mr. Frosty, by new favorite video game character.

So yeah, fairly recently, I came across a video which is a collection of so-called "Claytalities", which are obvious nods to the "Fatalities" from Mortal Kombat. After seeing that video, I looked it up on Wikipedia and, well I instantly fell in love with the series...

Sort of. I've been wanting to take a crack at it for a while, but by the time the Sega Genesis ClayFighter came out on Virtual Console, I didn't really have the Nintendo Points to buy it, and my interest was preoccupied with other things. Eventually I did buy it, but it turned out to be not as good as I had hoped. It's REALLY frustrating to play, even on easy mode, and the final boss in particular is freaking impossible until you use the right characters. I read that the Super Nintendo version not only looks and plays better, but also includes that nifty opening song you saw at the beginning of this journal. But it didn't really matter, I dug the franchise. Why? For the same reason I loved Super Smash Bros.: the characters. Okay, so maybe I love Super Smash Bros. more because of all that concentrated fanservice, but I dig the idea behind ClayFighter; clay-animated variety characters in an overal parody of the fighting genre, which is a genre which I think is alright, but not one of my favorites. Beating up these characters is fun, especially when they get on your nerves (which can happen a lot). Not to mention, especially in ClayFighter 63⅓, the characters are REALLY funny to watch and listen to. I think this is one of those examples where the spectacle makes up for the gameplay.

But, in any case, my purchase of the game was fairly recent since I didn't have that much Nintendo Points and I didn't bother to get any more points since, well, I had lost some of my interest in the ClayFighter in favor of other thigns to grab my attention. That is, until, in October, I found out about this:

Yeah, that's right, ClayFighter is coming back! Which is odd since, while the series does have its fans, it's not one of those franchises with a HUGH legion of devoted fans making petitions and constantly asking developers questions of whether or nor there will be another installment in the franchise... Though maybe that's a good thing. Perhaps a near non-existent fanbase is just what this franchise needs since, given what I've read, the ClayFighter series hasn't been very well received. If people forget, don't remember, or don't even know what's bad about a franchise, then they're going to be more willing to give this new installment a chance! Of, that's how I see it.

Anyway, as a response to this, I've been doing all I could to find as many people as I can who are also fans of ClayFighter to talk to them about the series, to see what they think of or hope for in the new games, and to get more information about the series itself, since I pretty much know next to nothing about it, though I might know more than what the general public knows.

So, I did the only logical thing I could do. I started a bunch of FaceBook groups/pages, and created a ClayFighter Wiki!

If ANYONE is a fan of these character, like I am, or if you're very informative about the franchise, please, join these groups, become fans of these pages, and join the ClayFighter Wiki! You're not alone, and neither am I!

Sidebar: Yeah, not much happening in terms of uploading art/works. I'm trying to do so many things at once that I just end up procrastinating on all of it. I'm kind of in a slum and I don't know how to get out of it. It's a rough life...

EDIT: I just found out about this ClayFighter Meme that I suggest EVERYONE who's a fan of ClayFighter do:

There's also a Club here at deviantART, though it doesn't look active:

Yes! I loved ClayFighter 63 1/3 when I was a kid. Unfortunatly, I only rented it. :(

There was a special "Sculptor's Cut" edition only available as a rental at Blockbuster Video, which included slightly better gameplay and a few more characters. One of the characters that didn't make the cut was this guy called "Hobo Cop", a parody of Robot Cop that was supposed to be this drunken hobo action hero or something. That would have been awesome!

I am uncertain on how you found me...but I am, indeed, a ClayFighter Fan.

I have the Original ClayFighter for the SNES, ClayFighter 63 1/3, and Sculptor's Cut. I have these three cartridges in my possession, and I still play them at times...Alas, I do not have the Judgment Clay version...

...Anyway, I happen to be a very dedicated fan; I am currently working on a comic featuring my favourite ClayFighter (Ickybod Clay), and seeing that a newer version of the series might emerge...it makes me happy...

If or when the new ClayFighter game becomes available, I hope that they keep the same ClayFighters in it...as well as the same voice actors and actresses...

...Of course, if Ickybod Clay actually has more than two Claytalities this time, it would be even more interesting...

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I needed this news, and now that I know about this, I can proudly state that I am a ClayFighter Fan.

If you are going to try Clayfighter, get the one for SNES. The sound and graphics are superior to the one for SEGA. I was outraged, actually, that they put the SEGA version on the Wii Console thing instead of the SNES one.

Are they seriously going to bring Clayfighter back??? PRAISE GOD!!! I love this game!! Seriously, a lot of people compare it to Street Fighter, and that's really not fair, since it's not a serious fighting game. It needs a fresh start. I will totally buy this game if it's true. I just hope they keep all the original characters (Blue Suede Goo is my favorite!!!!).

I rented Sculptor's Cut once. It's a shame it could only be rented. I hope it ends up on Virtual Console.
:iconpapermatt202:
Same here! Although, seeing as they chose the clearly inferior Sega Genesis version of ClayFighter over the SNES version, I doubt it'll happen.

I found you by searching "ClayFighter" on deviantART, and your work came up.

Wait, you actually OWN Sculptor's Cut? For realz?! I thought they were only available via being rented at Blockbuster Video! Dang, yo, you're lucky.

I'm sure they'll keep many of the original ClayFighters, after all, why revive a franchise without even including the original characters. As to whom will be chosen, it's uncertain, but I'm sure at least Bad Mr. Frosty and the Blob will be in, since they've been in every ClayFighter game. I also agree about the voice actors. The voice in the 64 game were why I loved it so much!

The new ClayFighter game(s) will be available on WiiWare and DSiWare by Summer of 2010. And I'm glad to meet a fellow fan! I look forward to your Ickybod Clay comics!

Oh well, I can always dream. :)
:iconpapermatt202:
So I've heard. Unfortunately, the first ClayFighter game I've played was the one available on the Wii's Virtual Console, which was the Sega Genesis version, and I don't mind saying I hated it, especially after watching clips of the SNES version on YouTube.

I agree, it's not fair to compare it to other fighting games, since more fighting games take themselves so seriously. When you look at ClayFighter, you can tell this obviously isn't a game that's meant to be hardcore. It's meant to be funny, and I love it for that.

Characters I'm looking forward to seeing in these new games are Bad Mr. Frosty, Ickybod Clay, Bonker, Taffy, Blob, and Dr. Kiln (mentioned in the manual for C2: Judgement Clay, appeared in ClayFighter 63⅓;). Blue Suede Goo would be a welcome return, though.
